We are pleased to announce that the 8th meeting of the IOBC-WPRS WG “Integrated Protection of Olive Crops” will be held in Florence, Italy, June 04-07, 2018.

The meeting will be organized by the Department of Agrifood Production and Environmental Sciences of the University of Florence under the auspices of the IOBC-WPRS Working Group “Integrated Protection of Olive Crops”.

The meeting will take place in one of the most beautiful Italian cities , Florence, that with its museums, palaces and churches hosts some of the greatest artistic treasures in the world.

Florence is also the capital of the Tuscany region, which includes in its territory other art cities such as Pisa and Siena. The territory of Tuscany, however, is in particular a place of perfect balance between culture and nature, thanks to the splendid areas that characterize it.

Tuscany is a land renowned for extra-virgin olive oils of excellent (superior) quality, the result of ancient traditions and crop innovations, where different production areas, each with its areas and cultural particularities, combine into a unique product recognized world-wide.

The economic importance of cultivation in Mediterranean countries but also in new areas requires a constructive exchange of knowledge and skills for multidisciplinary research, development, evaluation of strategies for more effective and more ecological management of pests, diseases, and weeds, in olive crops. Our goal is protecting crops by targeting for sustainability and production of superior quality products.

The main objective of the meeting is to promote cooperation among all those who are interested in olive protection with activities that include scientific sessions, visits to professional olive groves and cultural heritage assets in the area, but also a social agenda for more opportunities to networking to stimulate synergies for collaboration in the field of olive protection.
